2012-2013 Institute Training Schedule

During the 2012-13 training period, will be offering seven basic enrichment trainings, two sessions of the basic PS trainings, a solicitors’ training, and three advanced/supervisor enrichment trainings. Below you will find a listing of our trainings as well as a link to training and registration information.

Basic Trainings

This 3 ½ day course is the mandatory training for staff that will conduct protective service investigations. The training is focused on the basic knowledge and tools that AAA staff need to know to conduct thorough and comprehensive investigations. Training modules are based on OAPSA and related regulations. Participants must complete all 3 ½ days of training.

Enrichment Trainings

Enrichment trainings are open to Area Agency on Aging staff and provide protective services enrichment credits.

Self-Neglect Investigations

This hands-on format that will lead investigators through the process of assessment and decision making in self-neglect cases. Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to more effectively and efficiently make determinations regarding cases of self-neglect.

Long Term Care Investigations

This newly developed hands-on curriculum will lead investigators through the process of gathering, organizing and assessing evidence in cases involving long term care facilities. Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to more effectively and efficiently make substantiation determinations. The training will include resources to assist in these cases. Dr. Ronald Costen and Lori Knockstead will be providing the training.

Investigative Questioning

This curriculum will teach participants how to gather evidence in cases by using effective questioning skills. While interviewing techniques will be reviewed, the focus of this training is on the development of best practices in regards to what questions to ask and how to ask those questions. Questioning of consumers, collaterals, and perpetrators will be discussed.

Solicitor Training

Advanced/Supervisory Enrichment Trainings

This training is designed for protective service supervisors and investigators with significant experience in the field. The training will cover opportunities and obstacles to enhance our delivery of protective services across the network by examining best practices from within the network and across the country.
